VLC stalls when playing AVIs on hard disk using OS X10.4.2

Postby Tony Touch » 02 Aug 2005 05:05

Using a Dual 2GHz G5 with 512 Meg RAM.
If I play AVIs off the hard disk they stall every 30 secs or so, for about 1-5 seconds, however if I play them off an external drive there's no problem. I've turned off the 'put HD to sleep where possible' option in energy saver. I've deleted the VLC prefs. Help!

VLN froze when playing avi

Postby coccinelle » 20 Aug 2005 12:11

I have a similar problem using iMac G5 with 512 meg RAM, OS X.4.2.
Right after I downloaded VLN, I played two avi files, the first one played fine, but one third into the second one it began to stall every few minutes. At one point it froze completely and I couldn't even force quite. I had to turn the computer off. Later I tried other files and one out of three played fine but the others stalled periodically. This is random, I would play the same file that didn't stall and it would stall. Or vice versa. Perhaps I need to re-install?

I thought I was the only one with this problem.

In reading this and other forums apparently the latest official release of DivX (5.2.1) isn't compatable with Tiger. Some people have suggested installing DivX 6 Beta but that hasn't helped me.
