Hello.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html says 64-bit requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later. What was the latest version for 10.5.8 then on an old 15" MacBook Pro from mid-2008?

Thank you in advance. :)

Do yourself a favor and use the 32bit version. While in theory, 10.5 allows 64bit apps, we found so many bugs in its 64bit runtime, that we just disabled VLC to run on it, since it wasn't funny anymore. Apple fixed everything we needed with OSX 10.6, which is why we require it.

Your MBP isn't that old. You may want to upgrade to 10.6, too, since it will speedup your device quite a bit.

OK and thanks.

What are the differences between 32-bit and 64-bit?

Minor performance improvements on supported devices, overall speed-up of the OS if only 64bit apps are run and various improvements for developers. On 10.5, you won't notice any drawbacks by using the 32bit version.
