mac 10.4.11 won't install?

I've just downloaded VLC, I believe I've installed it correctly, however it will not open. I dragged the icon to the applications folder.. there are four VLC things in my applications folder now.. One just says 'VLC' and has the orange cone icon, when i click that nothing opens ( the size of this file is also nothing) .. there are two other icons that look like disk drives that are named " VCL 2.0.3" and "VCL 2.0.3 alias" these are both listed as alias files, and when i click them they open up a folder with 4 icons ' vcl', 'read me', 'applications' and 'goodies' .. then there is the fourth icon listed as 'VCL 2.0.3.dmg this is a disk image file.

I'm totally not a computer person and am sure I probably just didn't do something correctly when installing it, but I don't know how to make it work. Halp!!

VLC 2.0.3 requires Mac OS X 10.5 and later.
You can download VLC for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger (release 0.9.10) from here
