MPEG2Video (.mpg) will not play since upgrade

Former computer was iMac 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, 1 GB SDRAM, Mac OS X 10.4.11, QuickTime Player version 7.6.4. Used VLC Media Player version 0.9.10. MPEG2video (.mpg) files played perfectly.

New computer is iMac 3.4 GHz IntelCore i7, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X 10.7.4, QuickTime Player version 10.1. Using VLC Media Player version 2.0.3 Twoflower (Intel 64bit). Same MPEG2video files that played on former computer do not work. Some of them will play audio but video is solid green screen.

Please help. Thank you.

Could you please upload a sample to this site so we can have a look. Note that your files won't be available for download afterwards and there is no way for you to get them back from us. Please reference this forum thread when uploading them. Thanks!

I had a similar issue, just a green screen on any MPEG2 video that I would play, with a tiny strip of the actual video at the top of the screen. The audio would always play fine though, and I had no issue whatsoever with any other codec or file type. Unchecking "Hardware Decoding" for the FFmpeg decoder solved the issue (though of course, having to disable hardware acceleration isn't the most elegant solution). You can try it here: Tools->Preferences->[Show Settings=All]->Input/Codecs->Video Codecs->FFmpeg
