Audio issues with VLC 2.0.3

Do you experience audio drop outs or other unusual issues with VLC 2.0.3 on your Mac? If the answer is yes, please download VLC again from http://www.videolan.org.

Only a limited number of users was affected, but if you are just, download it again. If you're lucky and didn't experience any issue, there is nothing to do for you.

Enjoy!

Downloaded it again, the issues are still here... I use the 64 bit version, have you updated this one as well?

I have the audio drop-out on optical output since I upgraded to 2.0.1. With 2.0.3 (64 bit) it is still present. Haven't tried the 32 bit version yet.

I've experienced occasional audio stuttering after upgrading to Mountain Lion. The video is fine. It's not a file issue; if I go back a few seconds the same scene will play fine. This seems to affect all file types, as it happens with .mkv, .mp4, and .avi files. Definitely something to do with Mountain Lion, as I've replayed some of the files that I remember playing fine under Lion, have audio stutter under Mountain Lion. It doesn't seem to matter what the audio format is either, as it happens with Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1.

I'm running a mid-2010 Mac mini (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, GeForce 320M), with the audio and video output through the HDMI port to a Denon AVR-1912 receiver.

Re-downloading and re-installing has not helped.

Update: I reinstalled again, this time trashing all the .plist files associated with videolan in ~/Library/Preferences first, and after a brief test, the audio seems to be okay. I'll play some more files tomorrow and report if the issue is gone.

Update 2: I can happily report that the second reinstallation after deleting all the related .plist files fixed the audio stuttering.

I do have some occasional short audio dropouts in 2.0.3 on Intel which i quite minor, but doesn't appear on my G5. I'm not sure if this is related to this issue though.

Nobody? Are you serious? I have downloaded the new version multiple times. Does VLC just not care??

Hi,

I don't always upgrade to the latest version, so I went from 2.0.0 to 2.0.4 and then I had this audio issue. So I deleted version 2.0.4 and installed 2.0.0 again, this fixed my issue. I'll try again when the next version is released :-)
Macbook Pro from early 2011 running 10.8

Also, I'd be interested in VLC for iOS

I also have the problem in MplayerX. Very annoying, and frustrating that there is no response in this forum about this issue... :/

I would have to confirm the issues with the sound cutting out on 10.8. The video continues flawlessly, but the audio was cutting out about every 30 seconds. I have an eary 2011 i7 quad-core 1gb vido ram with 16gb ram, so I don't think it was an issue with my computer's specs. If it helps, I was using a high-quality .mkv file. I also found that downgrading from 2.0.4 to 2.0.0 fixed my issues.

I will give that a try thanks. Should I get 64 or 32bit version?

I am currently using the vlc-2.0.0-intel64.dmg version from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/2.0.0.html. It works smoothly.

I am finding that 2.0.2 is also working for me, so you may want to check out the other builds in between. I noticed that you are using mountain lion. Do you still have the issues with cutting out while using other outputs? If not, then it would seem that it is more of an issue with your driver for your output. Also , does iTunes have the same issue? Also, are you using anything like boom that would modify your output? You can check though your preferences and looking at your outputs.

Does anyone know if version 2.0.5 has fixed the audio cut out problem with MKV files while outputting digital out? It is so annoying! Also, what is the difference between downloading the main VLC app from the main page with the big icon that says download and downloading the 64-bit Intel version? Is it just 32 and 64 bit combined? I've always downloaded the specific 64-bit Intel version as I have a 64-bit Core i5 MacBook Air.

Any help would be appreciated, and I hope this audio problem is resolved.

I'm having the same problem as greekappi and Toranaga with 2.0.5. I'm outputting digital out and get ever so often the audio stops playing for a split second then resumes while the video continues on as if nothing happened. I haven't tested it with many different formats but the one I'm presently experiencing it on is a standard def mkv with AC3 audio. I'm going to try to dump preferences to see if that does anything. I really don't recall having this with my previous computer, and it shouldn't be related to load issues as the computer's not even breaking a sweat.

I need help. My surround sound no longer seems to work when playing blu-ray movies. After the last update the surround seems to cut in and out on movies that worked just fine before. I've tried deleting and re-installing vlc and I've deleted all the preferences several times. I've tried different audio configurations on both vlc and in my audio midi setup. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Does anybody have any more suggestions?

I have the same issue with audio cutting out using VLC.

In the duration of a movie there is about 4-6 halfsecond dropouts.
The dropouts seams to be random, and i have only heard them when playing surround, Dolby Digital or DTS.

I have tried both VLC 2.0.5 and 2.0.2 and both versions seams to have this issue.

I'm running VLC on a late 2012 Mac Mini, running Windows 7 64bit.
Sound is sent through HDMI to my Onkyo TX-NR616 reciver.

I tried changing HDMI cable and drivers for the intel graphics card.
That did not remove the problem.

I'm going to try VLC 2.0.0, to see if that changes anything.
Also going to try another PC, with VLC 2.0.5, to see if there may be some hardware connection.

I'll keep you updated.

2.0.0 is older than 2.0.5

I started out with the newest non beta at the time 2.0.5, so downgrading was the only solution.

I'm now back to 1.1.10, and everything is working fine again.

I guess there is some problem, that needs looking into.
