I have an iMac (2011) and a Macbook Air (2011) both with new Mountain Lion. Latest VLC 2.0.3 doesnt open in both iMacs.
The application icon starts jumping for a while and then it stops jumping and when you right click it says "Application not Responding".
Any idea?

What version of OSX?

They mentioned mountain lion in the subject, so it would be 10.8

Is it a fresh download of VLC? Did VLC run in the past on these devices? Did you upgrade your OS from Lion or is it a clean install?

Does it help to remove everything containing "org.videolan.vlc" in its name in ~/Library/Preferences? (Option-click on the Finder's "Go" menu to access the Library folder)

Not a fresh install. As I read on forums no need for a fresh install, it was just a App Store update.
After update I ran Onyx to clean everything.

I tried to run VLC as it was installed. Failed.
I tried to install VLC on top of the already installed VLC. Failed.
Then, I moved VLC to trash and I install it from scratch. Failed.

Before Mountain Lion it was running more than perfect. I have seen hundred of movies.

Deleting the file you said, doesnt work.

The same happens to both of my machines, a deskop iMac and the Macbook Air.
Can I enable debugging mode somehow so I can send you back information you may need?

Please make sure that you deleted the folder named that way as well as a set of up to 6 files with that prefix. This fixed the problem for all the other Mountain Lion users I'm aware of.

I deleted all org.videolan* files and folders from the Preferences folder and nothing. It still doesnt open.

As Felix said, ~/Library/Preferences.

[UDPDATE] I made a format and a clean install to the iMac and now VLC works fine. I still have the Macbook Air running with the problem. I dont want to make a format on the laptop.
