I'm using VLC v2.0.2 on a MacBook Pro 17" with OS X 10.7.4 but I had this problem with earlier versions, I think.

Basically, when VLC is playing in a window as opposed to full screen, the FF and REW buttons at the bottom left of the window do not work as they should, pressing either of them simply returns the playhead to the beginning of the media file.

In full screen the control buttons work perfectly well.

This is particularly annoying because I often have to reduce the player to a window to find a particular place in a file but can only stab about on the playback bar.

I've tried deleting the VLC preferences etc. but nothing seems to work.

Is this a 'feature' or am I alone with this problem?

With 2.0 they decided to multi-purpose the buttons. Quickly clicking them results in skipping to the next / previous video or to the beginning if there's only one video.

Press and hold the buttons to FF / REW.

Also, as an alternative you don't need to stab about the playback bar. You can click and drag in the playback bar to scrub throughout the entire video which would seem much more efficient that using the FF / REW to me since you can control the speed as you drag.

I'd like the option to disable this feature because I find it very awkward shifting my brain between how the control works in window mode and full screen mode. If I am in window mode and just want to rewind a few seconds (as I frequently have to due to playback problems - posted in another thread) I often find myself back at the beginning and then have to spend several minutes trying to find my place.

At least I now know that this is a 'feature', albeit an unwanted one, rather than a bug.

I forgot what version you mentioned. I was very disappointed that it wasn't implemented in 2.0.4.
