Open new videos in same window

Every time I open a video with VLC, it opens a new instance of the player. How can I get it to open in the same window? I'm using 2.0.2 on OSX Lion.

Does this mean that you see another cone in the dock? If so, you should elaborate how you "open" the video exactly.

Same problem here.

When opening a stream (vlc started on the command line) i get a new instance (another cone in the dock).
Is there any way to limit vlc to one instance and to get a new stream in the same window ?

The background is, that i want another application to start vlc with the stream as command line parameter.

Hi,
if you make a soft link to de VLC.APP (or call to open the VLC.app instead the of the binary file, but de SL is shorter ) , and use it (XXX:NNN$ open SoftLink2VLC name_of_the_VidFile ) you avoid this problem. Also you can use an applescript to open the file, VLC had a lot of usefule scriptable options.... i´m using it only since two days ago, and is a very good app with a lot of possibilities. If anybody knows better ways to do it, please inform, i´m new with the app and and do not want to confuse anyone!

I forget tell you that the open command allows to call (with softlink or not, the application, passing the file(s) to be used, or not, and the arguments its need from the command line:

open [their arguments] -a App or link [file] --args

That works, thank you.
But ...
when starting VLC with the open - command (with the file to play as parameter) vlc opens the file but doesnot start playing it.
"Starting" a second time the file is added to the playlist, but also not "activated".

Any idea?
