Hi, as soon as a file starts opening, VLC just shuts down.

-there is no crash report generated, sorry
-I have deleted my VLC preferences - makes no difference

I wonder if this might be because I am on an older OS? 10.5.8. Any chance the previous version which worked fine can be made available if this is the case?

Old versions of VLC are available on our download for Mac page, in the category "older versions".

Anyway, do you use a PowerPC or Intel based Mac? Did you also delete the "org.videolan.vlc" folder in ~/Library/Preferences?

Ah, no I didn't delete those files. Seems to work perfectly now, thanks a mill, glad I can use the latest version.

same issue can't find that file....

Would you please give your version of Mac OS X? If it's 10.7, the Library is hidden by default, but there is plenty of information available on these forums and the internet to access it anyway.

im on 10.7 ive deleted the file and still crashes

Yes, that's normal, since VLC stores its preferences and metadata in these directories.

Please describe more in detail what you do to crash VLC and post a crash log if applicable.

It seems to have solved itself but ill test it properly later.....

From this report, we cannot find where VLC crashed.
So, please paste whole part of the report. If it's too big to paste here, use pastebin.com or similar service.

urgh worked once and now keeps crashing even when i delete the pref files. reverting to older version

btw, am on Intel Mac.

Use Delete VLC Preferences.app. It's in Goodies folder in installer or zip archive.
Or use AppCleaner(http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/).

You're welcome to try VLC 2.0.2, which will be available shortly and include some extra code to make sure that it doesn't crash

I kind of have a different problem. I have 10.7.2 installed on mbp and when i play MKV or Full HD files. It freezes for some time (no audio and video is distorted)and i have a 2.4 ghz quad core processor with 4 gig ram . please advice.

As you said, you got a different issue so please open a new thread in this case next time.

Regarding your problem, there is little you can do. This happens from time to time if either the file is slightly corrupted or the load is too high to decode the first frame in time.
