Yes, there is one work-around, but it is installing a RPC1 firmware, which could be available for your drive on several download pages (of which I really don't know the names and don't want to know). Note that this action is illegal in most western countries (as it is against the DMCA and European Copyright Laws) and it will void the warranty of your drive. So, think about it before doing this step.

@madmax_2069: I am currently investigating this re-draw error, but I suspect that it's a driver issue. Please describe the problems with the on-screen-controls more in details. Sounds interesting, as it works flawlessly for me..

well at first (when in full screen ) the controls pop up when you move the mouse ( which is suppose to happen), but after a wile and a few movies later the onscreen controls no longer pop up when you move the mouse, so you have to exit fullscreen and go into windowed mode and then back into fullscreen mode again then the onscreen controls work again (i have ran into this issue very rarely in tiger) but it does happen in that OS. but in Leopard it will happen every-time after a wile. but it happens at a random length of time. sometimes it will happen on the first movie, sometimes it wont happen till i get to the 3rd or 4th movie in the playlist.

here is the system i am running it on
Digital Audio
G4 533mhz
768mb ram
Geforce2 MX
40GB and 120GB HDD
dual boot Tiger 10.4.10 and Leopard 10.5 ( both OSes are on different drives)
using the latest (non nightly) version of VLC

i have seen that windowed mode control redraw problem only once on VLC in Tiger but all of the time on VLC in Leopard after a few full screen movies have played and switch back to windowed mode, as you see the part where the controls are suppose to be, it has a part of the screen from the last movie that played, restarting VLC fixes the issue until you run a few movies in full screen again

Dear Felix,
I am well aware of the RPC1 Drive alternative but don't wish to go down that avenue and void my warranty.

However, apparently there is another way. One does it in PC mode first with Boot Camp. Open VLC with Boot Camp, it wipes out the regions I gather, and then I can watch my DVD's in Leopard.

VLC in leopard works great so far, but i have seen a few issues with it .

if you have 2 or more movies in the playlist and you watch both in full screen when you come out of full screen the movie window is missing something here



also wile in full screen the onscreen controls don't all the time work. you have to go to windowed mode and go back to full screen to get them to work again.

its been a wile since i have been in Tiger ( since the 26th) so i cant remember if it has the same issues or not. it still like to crash allot after a wile of watching video streams. but not as much as it does in tiger. in tiger it does it 100% of the time after watching like 4 -5 streaming videos in VLC, and only happens about 50% of the time in Leopard

i have the same problem! but i play 1 movie and than i switch to the fullscreenmode and than back, i take the window smaler and than i have the same result ... but it is only on leopard now ... on tiger it runs perfect!

I just want to confirm everything that has been said by madmax. Mine is behaving the exact same way. The unreliable onscreen controls, the remote (of course) and the highly annoying re-draw issue.

I love VLC - I really hope these issues will be fixed in the near future.

Hi all, I experience the same problem:



Happened since I upgraded to Leopard. It usually occurs when I enter/exit full screen.

Specification of my computer:
MacBook Pro, 2.4Ghz
Mac OS X v10.5
4Gb RAM
GeForce 8600M GT, 256mb RAM

Never happened before when running Tiger.

I have the impression that VLC 0.8.6c requires more system resources under Leopard while playing MKV files, than under 10.4. I have a Dual 2.5Ghz G5 PowerMac with 2.5GB RAM & a 30" cinema display. Some movies don't keep the frame rate and thus give the "Computer too Slow?" error and it's worse in full screen. Larger 1080p files are un-viewable. I didn't have these problems last month running 10.4.10... nor do I have problems viewing 1080p AVI movies.

Good evening from Japan, I have just installed VLC 0.8.6e on my macbook pro running on Leopard and trying to run dvd's from a different region setting but all I get is a quick blackscreen that pops up for a mili second before disappearing. Is there anything I can do? from all the forum discussions I tend to recall one message that stated that VLC does not work on the latest apple computers including the mac book pro, is this correct?

Seahound, I have a MBPro with v 8.06e and running Leopard - VLC is working fine. It might help that I have 4Gb of ram. Not sure if that makes a difference since the entry level MBP has 2Gb
