So far, this seems to happen to certain users and not others, but we cannot reproduce, nor obtain a good stacktrace.Just adding a "me too" to this. In fact, a Google search on the problem shows this is a prominent bug with a LOT of reports.
I'm on VLC 3.0.3 (but I downgraded to 3.0.2 as an experiment, and got the same problems) on a 2011 MBP OS 10.10.5 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M. I get random crashes with or without hardware acceleration. I wouldn't mind downgrading even further to a previous stable version, except that I depend on VLC to render a stream to Chromecast.
The report is identical to what others have seen here, too: "Service exited with abnormal code: 5" (which means nothing that Google can find)
VLC, please help us with this!
the question is why does v3.0 crash while v2.2.x plays perfectly fine. it may be the opengl driver crashing, but it's vlc 3.0 that's triggering the crash, while v2.2 and other media players like IINA, Movist, mplayer, etc. don't crash. i still think there is a bug in the vlc 3 code triggering this (as well as a bug that causes video framerate to stutter when the full-screen OSD or system volume OSD is shown, neither which causes stuttering in vlc 2.2).
You think we have to stop the VLC adventure or wait for this bug to be fixed ?It seems to work fine, except for the HD 3000.

don't know what you fixed, but this build does not crash. Can some of you test: https://we.tl/xKrmUi40fk ?
don't know what you fixed, but this build does not crash. Can some of you test: https://we.tl/xKrmUi40fk ?also it no longer stutters when OSD controller is displayed. so this build killed two bugs for me. i'll continue testing, but so far looking good. nice job and thank you!
Work perfect for me, dont crash anymore, ThankxCan some of you test: https://we.tl/xKrmUi40fk ?
just curious, can you explain what the fix was to resolve this issue? or point me to the bug tracker issue so i know what to do in the future if a similar bug appears again. you don't have to, but i was just wondering what was patched
I have the HD 3000 too with the same problem. How do I perform this? I'm sure it's documented but I couldn't find it. Thanks.Buggy driver -> disable fastest code path
