Hello, thx for the good work.

I seems that VLC, wont recognize the chapter next and previous when readind from a video_ts ripped DVD. It will do nothing or switch between .vob in playlist.

Curiously, the VLC /pc does and so the apple dvd player..

Is that a bug or Did I miss something.

Hi there,

I cannot play both europeen and US dvds on my intel mac. Apparently, I may neeed to install some additional libraries not included in the basic intel mac package of VLC. Because this requires manipulations I am very unfamiliar with, I would like to make sure, it is what needs to be done before attempting it.

thx for you help.

Hmm, I haven't had any problems with different DVD regions w/my MacBook Pro...

By the way, I'd just like to say that the latest version (5/11/2006) is much better than the first few I've tried on my MacBook Pro. The stability has greatly improved - and I really like the little controls integrated into the video display. To increase usability I'd like VLC to automatically recognize DVD's in the drive and all I have to do is press the play button. I don't really use the controller now that the controls are built into the "viewer" so I'm thinking that maybe you could make the controller "morph into the "viewer" (as an effect) whenever play is pressed on the controller and a video file is being played... I hope you follow this. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this...

I really appreciate the constant updates and fixes too. My only problem with this system is that I don't know what's been fixed. Many sites will have a small summary of at least the important "bug" or bugs that have been squashed in the lastest nightly build...
It would probably save alot more bandwidth for the VLC project if I knew what's been fixed - if the bug that's been fixed was big enough for me to notice, or if it's a small bug in a portion of VLC that I don't even use.

Thanks again to everyone developing VLC... I wish I could develop software. Then I'd be writing the code instead of asking for it. I really don't like whining about this kind of stuff - especially since I don't know how long it will take.

KublaKhan

P.S. Does anyone know of any download managers for Intel Macs? I'm having huge problems with my wireless. I'd just like for big files like VLC to be downloaded automatically whenever I'm connected to the internet.... I'm using Camino - maybe that's part of the problem. My problem with it is that it won't continue downloading after I've put my MB to sleep. Is this a bug I should report to Camino people, or is there a program that can help for Mac? From a Windows perspective (I recently switched) I'm looking for a program like "Free Download Manager".... I'll post this bug in the Camino forums just in case... otherwise, any help would be appreciated in this "hunt for software".

Tough evening, I spent time on the chat and the faq... and nothing came out of this research :(

Here is my problem: I want to read both european and us dvds (regions 1 and 2 I believe)

Here is the error I found: libdvdnav: Suspected RCE Region Protection!!!
I therefore install a previous version of VLC .7.2 but still have exactly the same issues.

Then I installed libdvdcss-1.2.8 to have the libraries that allows reading of DVDs, for I was told that VLC 8.2.intel may not have them. Installation was fine, but didn't change anything. Then I thought that this libs may also help libdvdnav-20050211 but I couldn t install it for some reaseon.

Then I decided that i didn't want to mess my computer and let it down. I am disappointed, half of my dvds are now unreadable... I just have choose which half.

If you have any idea, I would love some help.

MacOS X 10.4.6 - 0.8.5 MacIntel H264 Encoding Fails

Postby geo » 12 May 2006 06:55

0.8.5 is running my live MPEG2 TS great, with so little effort on this Mini Core Duo.

I've tried to encode to H264 from stream and file, and it can't find the encoder.

Code: Select all

stream_out_transcode: cannot find encoder stream_out_transcode: cannot create video chain main: cannot create packetizer output (mpgv)
Encoding H264 on 0.8.5 PPC works fine.

On the intel mini I also get jerky video playback on some MPEG2- channels. It could be the format of the audio. Is there anything I should look for?

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but I think it's worth noting
that the green line issue doesn't just affect video display. The green lines
can also be seen in the audio visualizations windows (scope, spectrometer
and spectrum).

Thanks.

ERROR MESSAGE refcount is -1

Postby blueroads » 16 May 2006 04:56

Hello there.

I was using VLC without any problems on Windows XP.

Just got a Powerbook G4 with Tiger, OS 10.4.2.
1.67 GHz Power PC
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM

I installed vlc 0.8.5

AVI Videos play but will repeatedly give error messages. 90% of the times it till be the same message:
main: picture (number) refcount is -1.

and sometimes:
main: decoder is leaking pictures, resetting the heap

The problem gets worst if I try to fast forward or rewind. That's an error message for sure. The image loses quality until it stabilizes somes seconds later.

Is this a known issue or a bug? Should I change anything in the preferences?

THANK YOU.

The infamous green line, yet again :)

Ok, before I hadn't seen it in anything but the audio visualization window,
where it _always_ can be seen. Now I've seen it when playing a couple of
'.mov' files. As it's not there when playing all such files, I wondered what
could be special about these files. Here is such a file:

http://images.apple.com/movies/us/hd_ga ... l_480p.mov

Googling on "green line h264" produces quite a few hits, including this:

http://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/n ... tid=878689

And indeed, when I look at the info panel in Quicktime player, the files
that have a green line in VLC have at least one dimension not a multiple
of 4. Could that be the issue?

I'm kinda grasping at straws here, but this green line issue has gone on
for far too long. In all history books of the future there will be a special
chapter dedicated to the curious incident of the green line and how it
threatened to bring the planet to its knees :)

Some other things of note:

The diagonal green line is associated with a horizontal displacement of
4 pixels. That is, the sections on either side of the line do not match up.

The color of the diagonal line appears to be {R=0,G=135,B=0}.

The line does _not_ appear in snapshots taken by pressing
command + option + S.

Thanks.

Hmm.. seems I got the dimensions of the linked-to video wrong. One
of the H.264 encoded videos that does not play correctly is 852x480,
so both dimensions are clearly integer-valued multiples of 4.

Btw, I am using the latest nightly build here:

http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/mac ... 9-0100.dmg

There can be no doubt that the green line issue has not been solved.

Thanks.

MacIntel H.264 Encoding

Postby geo » 26 May 2006 19:50

Just a quick question: is transcoding to H.264 likely to work anytime soon? I just tried the Mac intel svn and got the same result as the 0.8.5 version I posted earlier.

I've got a rack full of dual core mini's ready to go, and need to know if it is likely to be working in 0.8.6 "due in one month".

If there's anything I can do to help test please say. I'm not hassling you guys, just after a guess for the timeframe on this functionality. I have no idea whether it's a quick fix, or more probably terribly complex and waiting on x264 and other work to come first.

Anyway, here's a picture of 085 doing six concurrent MPEG2-TS via VLM, 36Mbps total bandwidth. Rock solid, clean streams, BTW.

thanks - George

Hello and congrats for your nice application!

my feedback

1) how to get rid of the VLC Controler when I launch VLC ? (as it is possible to control the movie in the control panel under embedded in the same window as the movie why do we need to get this controler appart ? (a disable button in the pref would be nice)

2) I have a dreambox (sat receiver) and can now watch the stream on my macbook ;) ... unfortunately there are 2 things that dont work

a) when I change the channel it crash the VLC stream and I have to re-launch it again (and get another new video-1.m3u file on my desktop)

b) each time I launch a channel it creates a video.m3u file on my desktop

c) there is a WEB-X-TV option in the dreambox to control and watch different channels and this is not working as it asks for a VLC plugin to run

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers!

Somewhere in the pipeline, but not finished yet. It is definitelly to come, but perhaps not until 0.8.6 (scheduled for july/august). There are some problems with the video output at the moment, but currently everything becomes nicer and faster, so stay tuned ;)

FLAC export failure

Postby bryanb » 15 Jun 2006 01:54

i can't convert .ac3 files and even mp3's to FLAC on .8.5 on the Intel Mac.

"ffmpeg: cannot find encoder FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec)"

That's with the streaming/export wizard and also with "open file -> transcode" method that was suggested on IRC.

Just thought I would add my voice to the crowd re the green diagonal line issue..

I am using OS X on an Intel Duo Mac Mini and subject to the same green line (From top right to ALMOST bottom left - it is about 1/20th way in - and then continues horizontally to the right most corner). The image is also skewed along this diagonal line and it appears that the bottom right triangle has slid left and down a few pixels.

It is happening on one video file at present, an XVID encoded at 580x242 and a framerate of 23.976. The file has an index and is interleaved.

Can this be added to the Trac bug tracking system as it seems to have gone on for a long time with no resolution at present but has not made it in their yet (When I had a quick look)?

@bryanb: I just reproduced your problem (to my personal surprise) and will try to fix it for the forthcoming nightly builds. I'll put a success message here, if it works again.

Fixing FLAC-support wasn't as easy as I thought, so there is a ticket in our bug tracker now, which is hopefully closed until the next release. You can follow the progress on that issue there.
