help with avi file on local system in mozilla

Postby sshapiro » 22 Oct 2006 23:57

(I hope this isn't a dupe - sorry if it is)

I've got a local .avi file. I've reset my pref so that if I double click on the file, vlan runs it just fine. However if I try to call it in an html file (using a basic embed with few attributes), in mozilla, quicktime is the plugin that is called to run the file. And quicktime cannot open the video. It runs it but shows nothing.

Is there anyway to get vlan to be the helper app instead of quicktime? I don't really care if it is done in a browser window or if a separate invocation of vlan opens to run the vide. I just want to see it. THis is all in the context of being on a local machine, no http server - just using mozilla to navigate around the local system.

Thanks,
/ Sid /

Try specifying a mimetype that forces the VLC module.

application/x-videolan-vlc (i think. i'm not sure)
