Because flip4mac does NOT work for the intel mac's!!!! I thought VideoLAN would work after being told about it. Guess another file gets deleted off the mac now... and I get to write the person back and say.. Well you said it would work... and it doesn't!Sorry, but why don't you just install the QuickTime Flip4Mac plugin and play your files with QuickTimePlayer (which is much better than WMP IMHO) without the hazzle of starting a virtual server, etc.?
I will praise you if I am finally able to play this Libby Hoeller video! That WMV3 codec is the bane of my existance. FYI, you can't play that codec even with flip4Mac.http://rapidshare.de/files/22991158/WMV ... 4.zip.html
1º Follow the link and download the zip file
2º Unzip wherever you want
Note: There are 2 files in the zip file DON´T DELETE ANY
3º Open the Java Aplicattion
4º Select the wmv file with the open button
5º Press "start"
6º Wait for a the temp files to be created
7º When the message "Server Started" appears open the "localhost.asx" with Windows Media Player 9 (ONLY WORKS WITH THE OFFICIAL WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9)
8º Enjoy and Praise me.
Try removing Flip4Mac and reinstalling the new version, which came out just a few days ago. The new version is finally a universal binary!using the flip4mac plugin i can get QT to play wmv files just fine. HOWEVER, vlc insists on owning the file associations such that it tries (and fails) to open wmv3 files. any suggestions on how i can get .wmv extensions to open with QT?
(yes i've triend the get info trick, clicking on "change all" removes my selection of quicktime and defaults back to vlc, i've also tried a prefrence pane called "Default apps")
Like I said before the new version of Flip4Mac is out now so grab it and give it a try. There are also some folks here in the forum reporting that the latest nightly build of VLC have the experimental WMV3 support enabled nowSo is the ffmpeg team finally cracking the WMV3 nut? Or is VLC going to get the 'passthrough' support via Flip4Mac?VLC is going to support WMV3 this autumn btw.
