Launching VLC from terminal doesn't recognize java

I'm on MacOS 15.1.1 Sequoia and running VLC 3.0.21

I have a strange issue where if I launch VLC from the OS, it recognizes the installed java and shows blurry menus correctly. However, if I launch vlc from the terminal, it states that java is not found and won't show blurry menus.

I have searched and searched without finding anything that works. That it works by one method makes it more confusing for me. If anyone has any ideas I would be greatly appreciative.
