How do I get VLC to recognize all subfolders?

I realize this might be a little too much info, but I'm having the hardest time getting VLC to do what I want to do, so I'll ask anyway:

When I watch adult videos, I like VLC to randomly play from my college, which is broken down into organized folders. The problem I've found is that it won't include the files in subfolders of the subfolder when I try to load the parent folder into the system. I even went into advanced preferences and selected expand instead of collapse. It still isn't doing a good job at pulling all the folders within the folders.

Is there a solution?
