Subtitles Never Selected Automatically

Postby DrunkTankGunner » 09 Jan 2024 08:18

I cannot get subtitles to be selected automatically for any video file ever.

In the preferences I have set
Preferred subtitle language: en,eng,english,English

Many files load the subtitles automatically, but when a video starts the Subtitle track is always set to Disabled.

I would love to always have the English subtitles selected by default. I would even settle for having the first subtitle track selected. But nothing I've tried has worked.

I had a bit of a look through the forums and couldn't find anyone else with this issue, but I am pretty bad at searching so I probably missed something.

Mkv, mp4, avi, file type never seems to make a difference. Most of my subtitles come baked into the file, but occasionally they're external .srt files. They all behave this same way.

I have Version 3.0.11.1 of VLC. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you update to VLC 3.0.20 and see if this helps?

i have the same problem-subtitle-not showup automatically. everytime i have to click buttons to let it run.
before year 2022 i didn't have this problem. VLC had an option that can choose to letting subtitle run automatically. but after year 2022, VLC does not have this option any more. i really hope the developer can put back this function.
