Getting rid of all mp4 extensions on videos in playlist

Hey I'm new the to site so this may have already been discussed. Prior versions of VLC for mac never put the .mp4 at the end of the files when they were on the playlist. And the only way it seems I can delete that .mp4 extension from showing is to go to every file separately and edit the name. Is there a way I can do that with all my files at the same time?

Oh and even if I hide the extension on the information tab that comes up in finder it still shows on the VLC playlist.
