Color ASCII art video output missing from my VLC

Postby fireman fireman » 08 Dec 2022 02:53

Hi all,

May be a simple answer, I just got VLC. I am running a MacBook bro with the current OS. When I run VLC I do not see an option under video output for color ASCII art video. I am working on an art project and trying to convert a video clip to ascii. Please help! Thank you in advance.

Sure there's a simple answer : Color ASCII art video output is disabled on macOS
The technical answer is :
The video output module is here https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/ ... put/caca.c and uses the libcaca contrib which is disabled by the configuration script for macOS packaging here https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/ ... ure.sh#L22
I'm not sure about the technical reason why it's been disabled, maybe something unsupported by the contrib or the module on the platform.
