I have used VLC for, well, I believe decades. But I am really ready to shop for something new.
Once I've done something in Preferences, I cannot undo it.
I turned off auto subtitles decades ago when my hearing was better. I've been trying for years to get it back on, and yes, I've tried everything. Even deleting VLC and reinstalling it. Yes, including the plist.
For playback, what I want is Random on music and Next on video. After not watching video locally and only listening to music for a long time, I set the thing to random forever. (It's not terribly random, by the way. I sometimes get the SAME track three times in one hour out of a list with 21 hours worth of tracks.) Now that I want to binge something I have as video files, it won't go back to Next. I open the Preferences and it has random forever unchecked (yes, I restarted), but clearly it's ignoring it.
I am getting very frustrated. There are things I like a lot about VLC, but if I can't even change my settings, I need to go elsewhere.
Is there any way to get it to obey me? I am running a late-2009 iMac with macOS High Sierra, which is the highest it can take, and VLC 3.0.16 Vetinari (Intel 64bit). (Only tell me to upgrade my hardware if you're volunteering to pay for it!)
Thank you.
