"soap opera effect" (too smooth motion) on VLC upgrade

Postby joeyconnick » 16 Nov 2021 04:56

Hi all,

I just upgraded my VLC to 3.0.16 on macOS (from 3.0.12). I've noticed I'm seeing the "soap opera effect" i.e. motion smoothing is happening when I don't want it to. I only watch films and TV dramas on VLC and the last thing I want is ultra-smooth motion like you'd want for a sporting event.

Does anyone know how to turn it off? Please? I find it really detracts from the viewing experience!

No one has replied to this original poster's request. I second this request. I'm tired of having motion smoothing ruin the feel of older movies on VLC. I would like to know how to disable motion smoothing on VLC and I can't find anything on how to do this anywhere on the internet. It's maddening. I don't want this computerized fake motion in my motion pictures!
