I tried your proposal above (setting service order, WiFi being on top in my case). Still no luck in getting MAC's VLC (version 3.0.16) showing my DLNA server. It works fine with other clients on my network (iPhone with VLC, Roku Streambar, etc)

JasperDK, curious if you tried this proposal from dauser? I had the same issue, and this did fix it, even if it's not the most optimal solution... It seems perhaps that if ipv6 is off, (as it was for me before I tried this) then VLC hangs, waiting for something... Perhaps this would be the place to begin looking at a fix.
This fixed it for me. The latest build did not. iMac Mid 2010.

I don't know why, but I changed IPv6 settings from "Off" to "Link-local only" and successfully enabled UPnP... (System Preferences->Network->Advanced-TCP/IP tab->IPv6)

FYI, I am on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) OSX 11.6 with no touch bar, VLC 3.0.16
