"Check for album art and metadata" Message When VLC is Opened

Postby stylebeast » 08 Mar 2016 20:48

Whenever I click an mp3 to play through VLC, a window with this message pops up before VLC opens.

Check for album art and metadata?
VLC can check online for album art and metadata to enrich your playback experience, e.g. by providing track information when playing Audio CDs. To provide this functionality, VLC will send information about your contents to trusted services in an anonymized form.

It gives me the option of choosing "No, Thanks" or "Enable Metadata Retrieval"
No matter what I click, VLC opens afterwards and there is no file in it. So I have to click the mp3 file again to get it to play.

This message pops up now everytime VLC opens. It started doing it this week...
How do I get this message to stop popping up every single time VLC is opened?

What did you do in the beginning of this week, if you write that it only started then?

VLC should only show this message exactly once when no config files are available. Try to reset preferences, this will lead to this dialog for another time, but maybe afterwards it disappears for you.

This is happening for me every time I launch VLC after upgrading to macOS Sierra. It makes it impossible to open files with VLC because after you respond to the prompt VLC opens without playing the media file you opened. I've tried uninstalling, also tried deleting all of the application caches I could think of.

Hi, I have found the same problem with VLC. Every time I open the app it presents a dialogue box which asks "Check for album art and metadata?" giving the option of choosing "No, Thanks" or "Enable Metadata Retrieval". But no matter what I choose the same dialogue box comes up every time I open VLC. Please help.

Thanks very much
