Loud screeching noise between tracks

Hi all,

I am using VLC v3.0.11.1 (64 bit) on my Macbook Pro 13" (2019) and I seem to keep getting a loud screeching noise in between changing of video tracks. It seems to happen when I have .avi format videos in the playlist and makes no difference whether I double-click to change the track or wait for it to change automatically. Sometimes the sound causes the audio to disable itself, which means I have to re-load the track onto VLC in order to hear it.

Is this a known issue with .avi formatted videos and/or other formats? I have noticed it doing this before when autoplaying videos through a playlist, but I haven't paid attention to the formats until this time around. Can anyone help with this?

Yeah I'm seeing something similar as I wrote here:

But now I'm experiencing something similar to what you described - it's a bit loud screeching pop. Sometimes the audio completely cuts out afterwards. I'm mostly seeing this with mp3s tho.

seems to only happen over speakers though - never happens with headphones plugged in

I'm getting this on mkv formatted videos occasionally. It's very startling and seems like it could certainly cause hearing damage if it were to happen in headphones. Sounds like it's fixed in the nightly build from MoNigeria's link. I'm running the same version as OP.

Thought I'd add my findings here, that the noise between tracks vanished when I stopped using the equalizer. (El Capitan, 10.11.6, Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz)

However, on dl-ing the build mentiioned in the linked post above the sound vanished with the equalizer on.
