cropping video

Is it possible to export a video that has been cropped, using VLCs "crop" function? Or is that function only for viewing, not editing?
I need to reframe some MXF clips from 16:9 to 16:10.

Hello from 2020.. . lol. I cannot find any way of saving a video after cropping it. There seems to be no way to apply filters during saving... it seems very easy on windows though. not sure if i'm missing something?
