Use VLC to create an MP4 from an MKV merged with a subtitle file?

Postby technerd » 02 Sep 2020 03:01

I have an MKV video in a foreign language for which I’ve created a subtitle file (SRT). The subtitles display perfectly when I play the video in VLC and load the subtitle file. I’d like to create an MP4 that merges the video with the subtitles. I’ve found websites that explain how to do this in VLC but the UIs are older or are for Windows. Is it possible to do this with the current macOS version of VLC?

Although it can do it, VLC is not an editor.
It will be easier and faster to use a dedicated video editor tool such as AviDemux:
