In the last week or so, I have found that any new videos that I have saved to my hard drive, appear in the VLC media Player with only single quotes for their title, instead of the filename.
To make it even odder, it seems to be happening on a rolling two day cycle - so any video that was added two days ago appears with its correct title, but a video added yesterday or today appears just as as '' under the title.
I have updated to VLC version 3.011, but the same thing is happening.
Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?
This is on macOs 10.15.5.

Update: this issue seems to occur randomly, and some titles appear, others do not. It seems to apply to any file titles that have a name of 7 random characters. Now see that if this occurs for any video, it does NOT ever appear correctly. I have tried resetting preferences in VLC, but it is still happening.
