VLC only converts 27 seconds of footage

Hello,

I have tried every fix I can find on this issue, but I can't find a solution that works.

I've been trying to record a portion of a video, and I have my settings correct according to instructions found on this forum, but every time I try to open the .mp4 file, it says the video is incompatible, and only plays the recorded audio. I thought this may have something to do with the source file being .mkv, so I tried converting the original file into an .mp4, but it saves as a .m4v, and only saves 27 seconds of it.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.
