When opening a multilingual .ts file: audio gets out of sync when I switch to a different language.
If I remux the file to .mkv, looks ok.
The issue is not present in v2.2.8.
operating system: 10.11
hardware: integrated
reproducibility: every time when switching from main language to secondary language
codecs: H264 + ADTS audio (recordings from streams of French Internet provider free.fr)
I can definitely confirm this issue with 3.0.4., I already experienced it with several different movie files now. If I switch the audio line the audio starts correctly but then runs out of sync. So the normal correction to move the audio so that it fits with the image doesn't work because audio and video seem to run in different speeds which cause that the audio is out of sync again after 30 seconds.
Ok, I have now tried all versions from 3.0.5 down to 2.2.8, sadly the 3.x versions all didn't work, the 2.2.8 version now seems to try to sync the audio correctly but sadly then has audio gaps every 3-4 seconds for a second, but after the gaps the audio is synched again. So there seems to be information in the file which shows VLC where which audio should be, but it looks like later versions ignore it. This issue in general doesn't happen if I leave it to the first audio line, so there the audio stays synced, but after I switch it unsyncs very quickly and it is getting worse and worse. So something is wrong here.
As for myself, I've been using 2.2.8 since its birth and never had those issues.
It's also possible that some .ts streams are malformed (or deteriorated) and some software deal with them better than others — it's very likely to be the case with my provider's streams because I also ran into issues with other software. For example, in earlier versions of Handbrake, then after some collaboration of mine with the team, they corrected it — while iFFmpeg had no issue at all with them.
Another streaming video software (eyeTV) drops 1s every now and then but stays in sync.
That's why I've always been faithful to VLC, because of no such issues... until v3.
Tested 3.0.6: a little less laggy but still out of sync.
Hello aargl,
I'm trying to reproduce your issue. I'm on macOS 10.14.2 with VLC 3.0.6 using a .ts dump from free (France 2): so it's H264 + ADTS.
But I'm not able to detect the out of sync issue.
Would it be possible to send me your .ts file ? Do you use the built-in audio output ?
Is the av de sync perceptible from start ? How much is it (around 1sec ? more / less ?)
Hi!
Yes, I've kept the file at hand, I'll upload it as soon as possible — I haven't tried again with other recordings but it happened on 3 different ones (Arte).
Anyway, no the desync is not right from the start: to make it happen you have to switch channel while playing then jump to various points, clicking in the timeline, forward then back.
Who knows if the OS version is important too...
I record OTA shows using my iMac, ElGato Hybrid tuner and EyeTV software. Since upgrading to the latest version of VLC when I view these saved videos I'm getting audio out of sync after watching the videos for about 15minutes and it gets worse the longer the video plays. The video plays fine when viewed with the Eyetv software though.
tguillem> I wanted to use http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ to upload the file but it doesn't seem to work without a Trac Ticket. Can you give me one?
By the way, I was wrong when I wrote Arte, it was actually France 3 bas débit, I've tried other formats, but I don't remember if I've tested other streams as well — as they need to be multilingual to reproduce the issue.
@aargl: streams.v.o works without a trac ticket. Just leave the field empty or enter 0. Please post the name of the file after the upload here so we can find it. Thanks!

Well, I've tried in Chromium, Firefox and Safari, clean profiles, and when I click on the UPLOAD button, it becomes grey and nothing happens...
Ah, wait... analysing my bandwidth I see that something is uploading! (if that's normal behaviour, may be that page needs a little overhaul, uh!? )
I'll try again tomorrow.
3.0.7, 4 months after I uploaded that file and nuts: the bug is still there — I'd say it's even worse than in 3.0.6!
I've kept the files to be able to reproduce the desync in the same conditions.
Very sad that VLC for Mac is so neglected.
Problem for me too on 3.0.7.1 (Mac) and previous version. Problem with .iso files and also discs. Some files/discs start off OK then the lag starts to become progressively more apparent.
The most annoying thing is that it's not fixable with the audio delay buttons. No matter which way the audio is adjusted using F and G the lag just gets worse and cannot be fixed, requiring closing VLC and starting again. I watched a disk today and had to restart the player about 7 times, but still had to put up with noticeable lag. The same files/discs play fine with the native Video player.
3.0.8 is getting worse and worse! Now even the direct TV streams are out of sync!
(of course I've tried in a brand new user account with reset prefs)
Reverting to 2.2.8 once again.
Just confirming the bug, using 3.0.8.
I'm also running 10.11, on a 2009 mini.
I tried 3.0.8, loaded Duvivier's "Panique". The audio was so incredibly out of synch, I was shocked.
I've switched back to 2.2.8, which works as expected.
Could this be V3 / OS10.11 issue??
@scoogr: you might be damn right! I've just tried under 10.13 with the same tv streams and the same files, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue!
Now we need to understand what's specific in 10.11 that can cause this...
I 'm going to try under 10.9 to see if it's only 10.11 related or maybe any OS below 10.12 or 10.13.
Confirmed! the issue is also present in 10.9.
Now, me miss someone who can try under 10.12 (I don't have access to a computer with that OS).
I guess development is made under a recent OS and they don't check older ones... I guess we might wait forever for that issue to be fixed if it only affects "old" OSes.
I'm experiencing the same problem too with TS files and even some MP4s under El Capitan with 3.0.8. Not only is the audio completely out of sync, the playback is absolutely lagging. However with 2.2.8 everything is fine.
Welcome aboard!
As you can see, we're nearly 2 years after v3.0.0 and it has only gotten worse... It's fair to think that it will never be fixed, as 10.11 is considered an old OS by many developers.
It's very likely a side effect of Apple's "one year/one OS" policy: if each year's OS was considered an update to an OS than spans over a few years instead, we user wouldn't have so many compatibility issues — not to talk about devs who charge expensive upgrades every year "because it's a new OS"!
