No Media menu item

I would like to merge several video files. There are several descriptions of how to do this on the Net. However, they all say to launch VLC then click on the menu bar item "media". Problem is, there is no "media" button on the menu bar for the current version of VLC for Mac. Please let me know if it is possible to merge several video files before converting and saving them. My menu bar contains: VLC File Edit View Playback Audio Video Subtitles Window Help

I have the same problem. Just downloaded VLC. There is no Media or Tools option in the menu bar. Where is it? I've tried every dropdown and it's not available.
