Only playing last video in a playlist

Can't find anything about this with Search, so decided to try posting...

I'm running VLC 3.0.7.1 on Mac OS 10.14.4 Mojave on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro.

I used Apple iMovie to import part of a tape-based video from a camcorder today, and it created five MOV clips that covered about three minutes of video on my Mac. I added those MOV clips to a VLC playlist, and when I double-click the first video in the list of five clips to start playing them back in sequence in the playlist, VLC skips from one clip to the next without playing them.

Thinking my VLC might be corrupted, I uninstalled and reinstalled it today and the problem is the same.

Side note: If I add a bunch of MOV files shot on an iPhone to a VLC Playlist, they will play in order after the first one is double-clicked to start play. So this only seems to be a problem with MOV files imported off tape using Apple iMovie.

Any idea why this is happening?
