VLC wont save EQ settings and often quits as soon as I open it

At some point in the last while, VLC dropped all my custom EQ settings. They're all gone.

Now I have to re-set the E Q every time I run it. It ALWAYS opens with the equalizer off and set to the default "Rock" which sounds like crap, so I'm mad I lost my previous settings which took some tweeking to sound good on my system here.

Now sometimes when I open it, it quits right after launch!

I'd love to tell you the version but the damn thing won't stay open it's the most recent OS X version, though.

I wish the player retained window size, too. Sadly it reverts to the default small little player every time I open it

Try reset preferences. Note that you need to explicitly save a new equalizer preset before closing VLC. Additionally, you should save the audio effects preset (and check the checkmark "restore settings at launch ...").
