MacBook Pro 2017 Surround Sound issues V3.0.3 and V2.2.8

Have been using V2.2.6 without a problem until I tried out a few UHD-Files with Dolby Atmos tracks.
I upgraded to V3.0.3 because Atmos-Tracks would cut out and didn't play properly on V2.2.6.

Since doing that, I ran into the following issues getting Surround Sound from my MacBook Pro 2017 via "USB-C to HDMI Adapter" (Anker) to my Onkyo HT-R 494 AV-Reveiver:

Using V3.0.3: Everything works fine - SORT OF! Dolby Atmos, DD+ and DD tracks send ALL channels to the receiver - BUT: center channel is send to left surround and I guess (couldn't really verify) other channels might be screwed up also. When using remap in the VLC advanced menu - setting left surround as center and vice versa: nothing changes.

So i reverted back to V2.2.8!

Using V2.2.8 (and V2.2.6): Any file containing a DD+ (E-AC3) Audio Track is now missing the center channel which contains all the dialogue. DD (AC3-52) tracks work fine IF S-PDIF is activated (although the MacBook doesn't actually have an S-PDIF out everything is send via DisplayPort-Protocoll over the USB-C Port) and Dolby Detection HAS to be set to OFF. If either one of those two settings is changed, it is the same as with DD+ - there is no center channel on any form of surround-sound. BTW: the S-PDIF active and Dolby Detection OFF workaround was also found by trial and error, when I initially connected the AV-Receiver...

The terrible thing is: DD+ did actually play correctly (incl. center channel) on V2.2.6 until I upgraded to 3.0.3 - ever since I couldn't get it to work properly again (on either V2.2.6 or 2.2., even reinstalling and resetting all my settings.

Mac Audio Midi Setup is set to 8-channel 24bit 48kHz since my initial setup and I had not changed any settings when DD+ lost center channel on V2.2.6/8.

I hope someone can help, because all of this is incredibly annoying, especially since everything (except for Atmos) worked fine in V2.2.6! Getting the surround channels on V3.0.3 in the correct order would be ideal - otherwise I can live without Atmos, if I can get V2.2.8 to properly send the center for E-AC3...

Hi! It gets weirder and weirder... I suspect the last MacOS System Update f***d something up:

When I Connect the USB-C - HDMI Adapter - Video is transmitted but the Receiver isn't available as an Audio Device - when you restart the computer while connected the receiver is found (in midi-setup) as an 8-channel device and the problems with 3.0.3 are the same as above. When you turn off the still connected Receiver - it still shows up as a 6-channel device (interesting) which you can't choose for audio, it also still passes through video to the TV.

By sheer luck I found: you have to disconnect the receiver while it is turned off - reconnect - turn it on - and now it shows up as an active 6-channel Audio Device and now EVERYTHING WORKS IN 3.0.3
Have no idea how repeatable that procedure is though...

So it seems to be an Apple/Displayport Issue and not VLC!
