Open Source > Capture > Capture Audio: droplist stuck on Built-in Microphone

Postby lodestone.audio » 27 Jul 2017 09:16

Open Source > Capture > Capture Audio: droplist stuck on Built-in Microphone

I see the option to select my sound card. But when I do, it (or any other option) just flips immediately back to "Built-in Microphone".

I'm trying to stream one monitor and my sound card to do a presentation for a school.

I could also use a hint about how to configure VLC, so I can broadcast to my public IP address (my firewall is already configured correctly). I'm hoping to use UDP protocol, unless that's not recommended.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

These are my streaming settings so far:
Stream: Type: UDP, Address: <private NAT self-IP>, Port: 1234
Encapsulation Method: MPEG TS
Transcoding Options: Video: mp4v, Bitrate 512, Audio: mp4a, Bitrate: 192

Anyone from VLC care to reply? I'm trying to get this working, so I can teach remotely for an audio/film school.

If it flips back to Built-in mic probably something isn't initializing the right way or throwing an error.
The logs would probably give you a hint on what's going on.
Can you manage to get some logs either by starting VLC in verbose mode from Terminal:
/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC -vvv

or by opening
Window > Errors and Warnings...
or
Window > Messages...

Anything showing up there?

Also, what sound card are you using?
Could be it's somehow not supported; I don't know.

Thank you sincerely for the reply. Hmm, the latest version seems to have resolved this. Since this is now selectable, how do I stream synced audio video to another VLC user? I see an HTTP option. Does that mean this can be streamed to a browser? I tried that, and it forced me to download the target URL. I'm not totally lost here, but I need some direction.

Look into this post and its related links to get started on this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/261 ... ect=1&lq=1
It's not easy and out of the box; but doable.

Thanks. What are the recommended settings for streaming directly to VLC on another computer?

Didn't test this but basically
--sout "#transcode{vcodec=mpeg4,acodec=mpga,vb=800,ab=128}:standard{access=http,mux=mp4,dst=123.123.123, port=1234}"

Then open it with VLC on the other side:
http://123.123.123:1234

However, depending on your network setup this should work or not. For WWW environments, this could probably become tricky. If you're in an internal network, this should work easily, even without http but by simply utilizing udp.

Chez Louis, this drop-list problem is back again. WTH. :/ When I choose my sound card, it just flips back to Built-in Microphone. This is driving me INSANE! It does not generate any Errors and Warnings. I also launched in über-verbose mode (/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC -vvv) but there's nothing added when I try to select another audio source.
