Sound Problems

Postby pitlax14boy » 08 Nov 2005 21:59

When i try to play an .ogm file the video comes out fine but i get:

main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc ` ms'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Does anyone know how to fix this or a suitable player for Mac OS X that will help me view my file?

Looks like this special codec isn't supported in VLC, probably because it is proprietary. I fear that there is no way to fix this.

I have encountered a similar problem, but with a format which is listed as supported. I am trying to convert from ASF to any format (probably MPEG4) capable of playing on QuickTime/iMovie.

I can get sound out of certain settings, but the files I get are only capable of playing on VLC. When I convert to MPEG4, there is no sound.

Here are the settings I used:
encap: MPEG4
video: mp4v 1024 kb/s
audio: mp4a 128 kb/s
This will allow me to play soundless video on QuickTime.

If I use the same settings, but treat it as a pipe instead of as a file, it will give me sound, but I lose the ability to play it on QuickTime.

I have vlc-0.8.4-test2

"I am trying to convert from ASF to any format (probably MPEG4) capable of playing on QuickTime/iMovie. "

What codec does your camcorder use for audio? You can get the codec name from VLC. Select "Info" from the "Window" menu while you play the video. I think if your camcorder were already using the mp4a codec, VLC would have no trouble getting it into QT. As I said in the other thread, my camcorder usese the G.726 codec for audio.
