Using "g" key knocks audio and video out of sync

Postby SnidelyW » 29 Apr 2015 19:08

Quite some time ago, I discovered the usefulness of the "g" key command and the "h" key command.

My memory isn't the best at my age, so to help me remember what they each do, I call them the "[G]o slower" key -- for when subtitles run ahead of the actual audio stream -- and the "[H]urry up" key when the subtitles are lagging behind the actual audio stream.

At any rate, I have been very pleased with the "h" key command. Enough taps of the key, and the subtitles do in fact catch up to the audio stream.

The "g" key command is an entirely different story.

Even though I have upgraded VLC several times since this problem first manifested itself, and even though I have tried using it on quite a few different video files, using the "g" key command always results in the audio stream and the video stream being knocked out of sync.

I was wondering if this is a known issue -- I imagine that it is -- and if any solution is currently in the works.

Thank you for a great app!

You are mixing things up here. The H key is to show subtitles earlier, and the J key to show them later.

However, the G and F keys control the delay between audio and video in the default setting. You there is no issue here - you just need to use all four keys correcty.

Wow! Really? It was so long ago when I came across the page where I saw those commands mentioned, that it is possible that I got it wrong, or remembered it wrong. In fact, I don't even remember there being keyboard commands on that page to speed up or slow down the audio. Would you happen to have a videolan URL where this issue is more thoroughly discussed?

I am going to try out what you suggested here at the earliest opportunity and see what happens.

Thanks for the input.

Please just check the hotkey tab in the preferences panel. All available hotkeys are documented here.
