Keyboard hotkey for Subtitle On-Off toggle

Postby deac33 » 14 May 2014 07:50

Is there a keyboard hotkey to toggle Subtitles On-Off?

I see in VLC Preferences in "Hotkeys" tab there are some 8 keyboard hotkeys for controlling subtitles, but I don't see one for just toggle Subtitles On-Off.

If there is none, is it possible for me to customize the preferences to include one, if necessary I'd be willing to give up almost any other subtitle hotkey. :-)

Thanks very much. Great product!

You can cycle through subtitle tracks with "S". I assume one of the cycles would be "off". You can see those if you turn on the advanced option in the hotkey settings.

Yes!! "s" (or "S") works well, thanks much.
Do you or anyone know about setting the default to ON for subtitles. I admit hitting "s" isn't hard, but I just found in Preferences settings that I can't get to work.

VLC Preferences, Show All: Input/Codecs shows a right side pane containing
Subtitle Track (I set it to 1 thinking it would come up on Track 1. :-) )
Subtitle Track ID (was 0, I set it to 1, then 2, 3, ... 99)
When I set it to 1 and 1, save a start VLC player the menu item: Subtitltes > Subtitle Track does show Track 1, but no captions show up until I click it, same appearance but now captions are on. ??? Also when I click "s" now it shows track 2. So it's sort of on Track 1 but not enabled for some reason.

Any ideas?

Have you tried scrapping your VLC install and reinstalling? That sounds like something isn't working right in the machine.

the v key is the current hotkey for cycling thru subtitles; like stated above, if there's one ONE subtitle, it effectively turns it on and off, which is sweet
