VLC - Can I change manually the Subtitle size?

Postby clamatac » 15 Oct 2013 09:21

Hi,

first of all, sorry for my english.

I really like VLC because it can handle most of the videos and formats without problems, but I also like like it for seeing TV Series and movies in VO with subtitles and customize them, and with that, I mean choosing the position, the font, the size, the color etc...

I used to customize all these settings in windows with 'Media Player classic home cinema', but now, with VLC for mac I have no succes.

I have no problem except in the size option, here is an example:

I only can choose between small, medium, big etc... It does not matter what number manual size I choose.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings
clamata

Did you restart VLC after that?
Did you try using the subtitles menu?

Because those are relative to the video output, and therefore cannot be done live. Look inside the advanced preferences.

I know

but in the advanced settings there is:

It does not matter what font size I choose, it does not affect. Finally, I only can choose between the 5 standar sizes.

I cannot change the size of subtitles either, from the VLC preference menu or from the subtitles menu. I've restarted VLC each time after changing a preference. Any other changes to subtitle preferences (font color, etc) don't go through either - for example, after restarting, the preferences will still say "size: smaller color: black" but the actual subtitles on a video will be very large and white.

I'm using VLC version 2.1.1.

It's really very frustrating, subtitles are taking up a very large portion of the screen and it's distracting.

Is it a VLC issue, or are not all types of subs able to be changed, or am I just missing something?

Are you using bitmap subtitles like from a DVD? Since those are basically images, VLC can't do any modification to those..

I got the same problem (can not change subtitle font) using version 2.2 on Ubuntu 15.04.

What I've found is that vlc saved my change but did not rendered using my new specified font (I restated vlc after change).

What I found further was that VLC did change subtitle after I restart Ubuntu.

It worked but annoying behavior. So can anyone suggest me solution on this please.

First, you are on an OS X forum.
Then, no, you need to restart.
