Not able to enable UPnP in VLC 2.1.2

Postby rajivvishwa » 02 Feb 2014 09:52

Nothing happens when I select enable from 'Universal Plug'n'Play' right click menu on my VLC.
I'm trying to stream content from ReadyNAS to my Mac via VLC.
Is anyone else facing this issue / Is it a known bug?

Other Info
VLC Version : 2.1.2 Rincewind
OSX Mavericks

The enable menu works for me. Maybe your nas is not set up correctly?

Is there any way to test? I'm able to connect to NAS via my BluRay player and tablet.
What happens when you click 'Enable' while your NAS is off? do you get any kid of error message?
Also are you on Mavericks?

I just saw another pc in my network. So the "enable" function seemed to work.

But I am not sure for other devices / NAS systems.

I can see my Synology NAS in the list but there's a yellow error icon next to it and nothing happens when I click it.

Also, I had to quit another application that apparently listened to some ports or blocked VLC in some way before the NAS appeared in the UPNP list.

We are working on a fix right now. I saw early code fixing it a couple of days ago. I'll update this thread as soon as we have something to test for you.

I have the same problem!!!
I have the VLC iphone app and its works perfect on there with no issues streaming from my Synology DS212j. BUT I can get it to work at all on the 10.9.2 mac. It does show up there but there is a yellow sign beside it.

It is still broken in 2.1.5. Will have to revert to 2.0.9 still. :(

Try 3.0.0 nightly build.

I tried todays build 3.0.0 05-09. I have the exact same problem as with previous versions, including the 2.2 stable one.
There is nothing visible under universal plug and play in the GUI and the right click enable action does nothing.
Under all settings - playlist - service discovery there is just SAP and Podcast and no UPNP stuff.
Is there a module missing?
The wireless display is showing the UPNP device (OpenElec) so network connectivity is good (I can also play over my NAS location).
The Synology I have does not show up in VLC either.
Would be great if it can be fixed, happy to test.
thank you

It's still not working as of today... I tried version 3.0 from nightly builds - and it just crashes when I try to select UPnP item in VLC sources window. My network is fine, all other devices I have recognize UPnP sources an can play media through it.
I use macOS Sierra and Macbook Pro, and I tried both wireless and ethernet connection to my local LAN
