Mavericks not happy after VLC tries to play DTS or AC3

Postby macona » 09 Dec 2013 05:38

It was working fine up until the other week, I could play any DTS or AC3 with no problem. I went to replay a file and suddenly it just won't play AC3 or DTS and when I try it really messes up the system. When you launch a file with it it starts playing for just a second as the receiver changes modes and then things go wonky and the video freezes. The whole machine becomes sluggish. If you try to access the sound preferences you get a beach ball, open up a web page and if there is flash it won't load. Really weird.

Yet I can play the same files though Mplayer X with DTS or AC3.

I tried deleting prefs and upgrading to the newest VLC, no effect.

Any ideas?

It looks like your coreaudio might got seriously confused. In this case the best solution is to restart the OS.

I pretty much have to restart the computer every time I try to launch a file that used AC3 or DTS, it screws the system up that badly.

Tried reinstalling MacOS last night and it still does it.

Please upload a complete VLC log so we can check what might be wrong.
