2.1.1 + Mavericks, using SPDIF output even I don't have one

Hello,

I am using a hackintosh with Mavericks.

The Audio device I used is M-audio Audiophile192 with Envy24HT driver, which works well with OSX 10.7.4.
Recently I upgraded to Mavericks, all other apps works well except VLC 2.1.1. I also tried the latest built 2.2.0, it doesn't work either.

I noticed that whenever I try to play video file, the console shows

Code: Select all

kernel[0]: SPDIF started

So there is no sound at all.
I tried to turn off the SPDIF option in audio preferences, but no luck.

Audiophile192 has no SPDIF output and I believe Envy24HT driver does not support that.

Any suggestions?

There is another symptom:

If I am playing music from another app, like Vox Player, and I start to open audio files in VLC, the sound will come out.

We don't support hackintoshes.

If you have trouble with the SPDIF mode, you can select the audio device in the menu which does NOT have the (encoded output) behind the name - this should always disable SPDIF.

And what if I have a real mac with the latest version of vlc (2.1.2) and when i have the "S/PDIF when available" box checked and the "Force detection of Dolby Surround" on or auto, not only the vlc, but the whole system is collapsing. Only a restart of the machine could help and give the (sound) system back. In off mode, the vlc and the computer is working correctly.

Maybe it's not the most important issue (or a bug at all), but being a lame I needed some time to realise that the off mode could help me. (As I used to use the software in auto mode before the last updates.)

I have following configuration:
MacBook 2.9 GHz i7, 8GB
Mac OS 10.9.1
VLC 2.1.2
