'Float on Top' issue on Mavericks 10.9

Postby mattdavidsonnz » 06 Nov 2013 15:00

I have OS X 10.9 Mavericks and VLC 2.1.0

When I have a video playing and have 'Float on Top' enabled and then enter fullscreen and then exit fullscreen the player window is hidden and cannot be brought back until 'Float on Top' is disabled or I click onto another application such as Google Chrome then click back into VLC, the same problem occurs when minimizing then bringing back from minimize.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I can also see this problem when exiting fullscreen. This is only happening with the native fullscreen mode, right?

I have created a ticket for this issue: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/9814

Registered to say I've noticed this problem as well, also with minimizing. I actually noticed this same problem first with an IRC program I use with the SIMBL plugin afloat 2.4 (Neither afloat nor SIMBL have been updated in years, so it's not too surprising there would be problems with Mavericks). I don't know if VLC used a similar mechanism for keeping things on top.

This happens for you also only with the native fullscreen mode, or even with VLCs mode?

I seem to have it with both OSX fullscreen as well as VLC fullscreen. I mostly have the problem if I minimize something that's floating on top. I then can't get the window to show again if I try to maximize, restore, or "show all windows"

Not the same problem, but perhaps related: When I close VLC, the dock at the bottom of the screen disappears.

I can verify that this is still an issue on the latest update, 2.1.1

Which issue exactly? Float on top when exiting fullscreen should be fixed now. The dock should also not disappear suddenly, anymore. Float-on-top and then minimizing the window is still an open issue.
