What happened to the audio files?

Postby Confused25 » 11 Nov 2013 18:16

Hi
I have a couple of queries having just started using VLC recently. I hope someone can help me please - I'm not very good with computers!
Firstly, I thought I had installed VLC on my mac but realise now (having searched this forum) that I was using it from the disk image. If I brought audio files into VLC will they therefore have simply deleted when I closed the program and then closed down my computer?
Secondly, on doing some searching to try and figure out what went wrong for me, I came across the CNET website which said that there were trojans or viruses on the windows version of VLC on CNET. If I downloaded VLC version for Macs from the VLC site and (as I realise now) did not actually install it, will I be ok or is there a way I can check for trojans?
Many thanks!

If you were running VLC from the disk image (.dmg) and opening audio/video files with it, nothing will be deleted when you close VLC or shutdown your system. Even if VLC is installed in your Applications folder, it wouldn't delete the files you play.

Generally, the files hosted on videolan.org are safe, but I understand your paranoia. You can always scan your system with ClamXav http://www.clamxav.com or any other antivirus of your choice.
