Stuttering: PTS is out of range, dropping buffer

Aberrant behavior:
Video will randomly freeze for 5-10 seconds, debug window when pulled up will have the log posted below.

video format most heavily impacted: xvid avi, general mpeg4 in any container. (least affected, h.264 matroska)

I have exactly the same problem, as have many users, so I see.
I'm also on an iMac with i7 processor and OSX 10.8.3 and 8GB int. memory running VLC 2.0.6 Twoflower)

Isn't there any solution????

[UPDATE] Some people suggested an update to version 2.0.7 (nightly build) but the same problem persists in this version.
[UPDATE 2] I just tested versions 2.0.4, 2.0.5 and 2.1.0 latest build, but the stuttering keeps occuring.

Might it be the combination VLC with an 27" iMac with i7 core? Because I only read of the same problems from people with this specific type of Mac.
