Gained 5.1 Surround, then lost it again!

Postby xiaodidi » 11 Sep 2005 22:04

Mac OS 10.3.9 - Sonica Theater 1.6 driver - VLC 0.8.2

I had the known problem of scrambled audio channels with VLC and 6-channel surround. I followed the instructions in the README file, concerning the Audio MIDI Setup application. That didn't work. However, after resetting the VLC preferences to default values, I suddenly got true six-channel sound on all the right speakers (Logitech Z 5300).

Unfortunately, the very next day, after logging in, everything was back to the scrambled sound status. Trying the same procedure didn't work.

Is there anything I am missing?

Thanks for your help!

No it's stereo that doesn't work

Looks like VLC plays Dolby Surround soundtracks OK now, but the plain stereo soundtracks comes out of the left front and subwoofer channels. This is confusing when a movie has two types of soundtracks, e.g. for the DVD menu/trailers and the feature film. I guess it's a matter of adjusting the Audio MIDI Setup settings for stereo movies again.

Oh well, I should contribute to the OS X development instead of whining.
