xspf abruptly stops playback and loses stream connection

not sure if anyone else has this issue, but its getting pretty annoying.

just to be clear:

- playback stops, but vlc does not crash
- stream connection seems to be lost because the video stream does not enter "pause" but acts as if the video has reached the end point.
- im using 10.8.2

any advice is greatly appreciated.
