Upon update to ver 2.04, lost entire Media Library

Postby packzap » 19 Oct 2012 04:42

I just upgraded from VLC version 1.12 to 2.04. Upon restarting my entire Media Library of saved links is toast. Lost everything I had saved there for the past few years. These are analogous to bookmarks in a browser. Grrrr . . .

Now, I'll have to painstakingly try to recreate every single quick link I had saved in the Media Library.

Why does the upgrade not prompt us it will erase these precious jewels before savagely doing so? I should of backed these up beforehand. Where are the Media Library entries saved on the Mac platform?

It should not delete it. This is the first time I hear about that.

The Media Library is in a file named ml.xspf

I did a thorough search in the Mac environment and don't see "ml.xspf". Could it have a different name?

No sign of a file with that name in Apple Mac's with OS X 10.8.2. I've checked two different systems running the VLC Media Player. Can you tell me what location the VLC Media Library should be stored on a Mac platform?

It's in {YOUR HOME DIRECTORY}/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc

You'll need to hold down option as you click on the Go menu in Finder to reveal Library.

Ah, there it is! They do a pretty good job hiding things in Mac. It was also cloaked to Search. Thanks for the option key tip. Now I know where to backup.
