No video or audio playback

Postby Peter » 13 Aug 2005 13:44

I have recently installed the VLC Media Player, as recommended by the supplier of the .avi files I have downloaded. When I attempt to play them, however, I get neither video nor audio (I assume I'm doing the right thing: choosing 'Open File' from the File menu, etc. etc.)

The Messages list (selected from the Window menu) appears to say:
'ps warning : garbage at input'
repeatedly.

Does this mean the file I am tryinf to play is corrupt and/or not suitable for playback on a Mac?

Many thanks.

I have had a similar problem- .mov files will open, and I will get audio, but NO video (and NO error messages). In each case, the same file has played just fine in Quicktime. Fortunately this doesn't seem to plague TOO many files, but when it happens to be the one you want to play, well...

All of these files are broken btw. It's not an error in VLC, but inside the respective files. Slap their creators around a bit, if you want to play them in VLC correctly.

Many thanks for the last reply. I will attempt to download the files again, in case my first attempt was at fault, and if that doesn't work will raise the matter with the creator.
