A newbie's question

Postby The Sorrow » 10 Aug 2005 19:17

Let's start off. I'm completely new to macs and downloaded the newest version of VLC (8.2). I'm running a 800mhz g3 mac os X 1.0.2.8 build.

I download the file, extract the dmg file to applications. Whenever I try to run VLC it shows up in the dock for a few seconds, jumps around there, and then goes away. I try setting my files to open only with vlc, but the icon only jumps around in the dock and then goes away.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I be extracting the dmg file somewhere else? Is the newest version not compatible with my mac os X version?

Help wanted.

If you are, indeed, dragging the dmg file to your applications folder, that's the problem. Open the disk image on the desktop and drag the application within to the application folder, along with the Read Me documents, if you wish.

Then use the mouse to eject the dmg file, as you would a CD or DVD.

so sleepy
