Soundflower and VLC

Postby signal64 » 17 Aug 2012 05:51

I can't get VLC 2.0.3 or 2.1 beta to route audio to SoundFlower.

It isn't an option in the list of audio devices and if I use Audio MIDI setup to make SoundFlower the system default it still doesn't want to do it.
In VLC I've uncheked "Use S/PDIF when available" and optical out is still being used.

I was hoping to get this working to utilize some audio meters that rely on this.

Any ideas?

Seems you are not alone, I fear this is a Soundflower issue:

What versions of Soundflower have you tried so far? What OS version are you on?

Soundflower 1.5.2 on Lion 10.7.4

That post seems to indicate not working at all or not specific to VLC?
I should clarify that soundflower is working ok with all the other apps I've tried.

It is a listed as a output device in other players and when selected it routes the audio as expected.
I've been using it for awhile.

I'll give a newer/older version a shot though.

So far no luck.

VLC gives me "Default" for a choice of audio output and not a list of audio devices.
This isn't with just soundflower but with any audio device available.

Changing my system default in Audio MIDI setup and even rebooting doesn't change it in VLC but other apps are honoring the change.
I tried this not only with soundflower, but with display port audio and usb audio devices plugged in.

Does VLC cache that information?

If it does, uninstall/reinstall VLC with the option, "clear previous cache/settings" and it should work normally, I think.
